Lower back pain - what to do and how to treat?

back pain in the lumbar region

Everyone knows that the spine is one of the most important structures of the whole body. Nature ensures that the spine is strong enough and at the same time mobile in different departments, as well as the special structure of the spine allows you to absorb and soften the load that inevitably occurs during various movements and only when walking.

One of the most common musculoskeletal problems encountered is pain and discomfort in the lumbar region. Such violations occur in professional sports as a result of injuries and overload, and in normal daily life. This worries many on the planet and back problems are among the three most common complaints.

The lumbar region is the largest and bears the weight of the upper body, performs supportive, motor functions, absorbs shocks.

Localized pain in the lumbar region can be mechanical, infectious, metabolic (e. g. , osteoporosis), inflammatory (ankylosing spondylitis), visceral (caused by disease of internal organs), and neoplastic (oncology).

Such pain may indicate the development of a serious illness that can lead to temporary disability as well as disability. Therefore, if you experience discomfort in the lumbar region, you should immediately see a doctor.

Many believe that the cause of back pain is a disc herniation or protrusion, and indeed, compared to other departments, the appearance of hernias is more often observed in the lumbar region, this is due to the fact that this department carries an increased load. , but more often this is the cause of the pain.

The so -called discogenic pain is only 4% of all lumbar problems and of course requires specialized neurosurgical treatment.

According to statistics, mechanical pain in the lower back is 70-80% and is resolved with conservative treatment through manual and physical therapy. Mechanical pain includes violation of the mobility of the joints and ligaments of the spine itself and the occurrence of inflammation in this area.

small amount

  1. If pain occurs, you should see a doctor and do not self -medicate
  2. Herniated discs are often not the cause of pain, fear not
  3. Mechanical spinal problems are treated conservatively

The lumbar spine is much more mobile when tilted forward and backward, i. e. in bending and extension of bending and lateral round. Flexion is 70-100 degrees, and rotation is only 30 degrees, which means that maintaining mobility while bending forward and backward is the key to success and the absence of pain.

To increase mobility in flexion and extension, tight band exercises can be used.

First, evaluate which movement is painful: flexion or extension, to understand the corrective movement we will be doing.

Then place the tape on the lumbar area just above or below the sore area. Create tension on the tape with your elbows in front of you. While holding the position of his tension tape, start leaning forward or backward. Perform 6–12 repetitions and evaluate changes in amplitude and pain after implementation during reassessment.

Nuances of implementation:

  1. There should be no pain, if pain occurs, change the position of the tape a little higher or a little lower, adjust the tension of the tape (more, less);
  2. After doing 6 repetitions, check the tension and position of the tape;
  3. Maintain tape tension while performing movements, forward and backward;
  4. Repeat some 2-3 approaches;
  5. With severe pain and no effect, exercise is not indicated !!!

No need:

  1. Pull the tape too hard, so that the pain increases;
  2. Do it quickly;
  3. Do it through pain.

Results

Often in ordinary life there are so -called mechanical pains that require proper diagnosis by a specialist, as well as the implementation of corrective exercises for their prevention.

To increase flexion and extension in the lumbar region, use tight strips.

Follow the rules when doing:

  1. Don't run through the pain
  2. With the right technique, a quick effect is created (reduction of pain, increase in range of motion)
  3. Support for full range of motion with tape
  4. Repeatability (2-3 sets of 12 repetitions)

As Hippocrates said: "Doctors should always encourage patients. " All health and sports achievements !!!
